If you watch a lot of extreme sports videos, you’ll often notice a little bit of text at the the bottom of the screen saying something along the lines of ‘these stunts are carried out by trained professionals under highly controlled conditions and are NOT to be attempted by members of the public’, or the announcer will pipe up with words to similar effect. Well, here’s a video of something you actually can try at home.
MX vs ATV Supercross was the fifth release in the MX vs ATV series of racing games, and was a huge hit in 2014 when it came out on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. As the name suggests, the game pits motocross bikes against ATVs in a supercross setting, with some forty riders across eighty teams available to compete with. There are seventeen tracks from both the motocross and ATV worlds, and career progression through three series. So it’s almost as exciting as the real thing.
In this video, MX vs ATV licensing manager and producer Dave Knudson lays down the gauntlet to American Malcolm Stewart and Fredrik Horen from Sweden in the MX vs ATV Pro Rider Challenge. With their backgrounds in supercross lites and as a reserve rider for the Honda Muscle Milk motocross team respectively, you would expect both of the guys to be over qualified for the challenge, to put it mildly.
But a game like this comes with its own challenges, and just like real racing, it’s never quite as easy as it looks. We’ll leave it to you to find out which of these racing pros came out on top.
