RHL Weston Beach Race – Riders hustle bustle of Parc Ferme

The guys at Moto Magazine have come up with a real treat here – an exclusive behind the scenes view from in front of the 600 or so racers competing in the 2014 RHL Weston Beach Race as they head to the start line. The sense of anticipation is palpable, and it’s difficult to imagine how else you might get to experience the action from this vantage point, short of getting hold of a bike and entering the race yourself.

Now well into its fourth decade, the RHL Weston Beach Race has grown to become one of the most challenging and prestigious events in the motocross calender. The event takes place every October across an entire weekend, kicking off on the Friday when the riders arrive at Weston, with the main races held on the Saturday and Sunday.

It’s a fantastic spectacle which attracts enormous crowds, and every rider wants a win at Weston on their trophy shelf. After all, it is the UK’s largest off-road motorsport event. A dedicated team of contractors move thousands of tonnes of sand to create one of the most difficult courses in motocross, meaning that on race weekend the beach at the usually sleepy seaside resort is unrecognisable.

In case you were wondering, the footage is shot from the back of race steward Gareth Hockey’s quad bike, and the guys at the front include David Knight, Shaun Simpson, Nathan and Ben Watson. It was all captured using a GoPro MOTO, and great little camera which provides surprisingly good picture quality. So good, in fact, you can almost imagine you’re there.
