Our October issue is all about the mountain.
Be that a literal peak we had to scale before we rode down – albeit with the help of a helicopter in Iceland ski adventure, or chairlift as in Cervinia, Italy – or a metaphorical one – as was the case when we took on the ridiculous challenge of running the Loch Ness Marathon with zero training.
We investigate the challenges facing the women of the mountainous Paramo region in South America, who are being helped by the small UK outdoor which takes its name from their home.
We also celebrate the more light-hearted side of mountain life by hanging out with avalanche rescue dogs in the Rockies and trying dog sledding and snow-shoeing in Quebec.
Finally, we ride road bikes around volcanic Taiwan and find a secret off-piste wonder stash of snow in the French Pyrenees.
You can find out by reading this and other stories, dropping throughout October.
