Everyone knows the French Alps are packed with hundreds of kilometres of awesome trails. Instead of following the crowds to Morzine or Tignes, why not make your way to Valloire?
It’s a smaller resort but there’s still 155km of marked trails for cross-country lovers, plus 17 freeride slopes including an international downhill run. Come July, the Tour de France will run straight through the town.
The beauty of Valloire is you’ll get the real French experience of staying in a quaint alpine village (there’s far less English speaking tourists here) for half the price. You can camp at the Saint Thècle campsite from €10.30 per night or stay in a studio apartment like this one from €35 per night.
If you fancy branching out to other trails, the Three Valleys (Val Thorens, Meribel, Courcheval) are just an hour and a half drive away.
