Dirt Factory | The UK’s First Indoor Bike Park Got Half It’s £300,000 Crowdfunding Target… In One Week

Britain is digging deep for their first indoor mountain bike and BMX trails

The crowdfunding campaign to raise £300,000 to build the UK’s first indoor bike park, Dirt Factory, has passed the 50 percent mark just a week after launching.

The Dirt Factory project is looking to open the indoor park in a giant warehouse in Manchester, bringing trails and riding opportunities to those who can’t get out to the mountains, hills or would rather just have the odd session in a dry, wind-free setting where they can see where they’re going.

We joke of course. The outdoors is always going to be number one for riding dirt on a mountain bike or BMX, but the project will provide a great outlet from which to grow the sport and reach a lot more people if it does go ahead.

Vocal backing for the project had been incredibly positive from the mountain biking community in the run up to the 1 February launch, and that support has turned into a huge £159,300 of investment at the time of writing, from a range of 122 investors.

If Dirt Factory do indeed hit the £300,000 target within the 22 days remaining on the crowdfund, they look to have the warehouse built, fixed up and ready to open its doors in just seventh months time.

The factory will use shipping containers and real dirt to provide facilities ranging from a pump track to a kids area, various levels of trails, dirt jumps, a foam pit and more.

Indoor bike parks have already proved incredibly popular overseas, in the likes of America, though they have yet to make an appearance in the UK. It’s actually really quite odd given that the weather in Britain is, well, you’ve probably been there, done that and covered the t-shirt in wet mud and tears. It’s often not too nice.

As well as the riding opportunities, Dirt Factory will offer a cafe, cycle shop, mountain bike hire, coaching, school sessions, events and competitions.
