The Patrol: Up and Down Squamish

The Canadian town of Squamish in British Colombia has all the outdoor activities even the fussiest of adventurers could wish for. Whether you’re in to hiking, rock climbing, ultra trail running, or even kiteboarding and windsurfing, you’ll find that the facilities and terrain available there will be is as good as any you will find anywhere in the world. But as Transition’s Sid Slotegraaf demonstrates in this video by Andrew Santos, the mountain biking in Squamish stands out even by those high standards.

Mountain bikers coming to the area have over 600 trails to choose from, so long as they’re up to the challenge. And much of this terrain is not for beginners – there are demanding drops, jumps and berms, and huge gaps between the steep rocks which surround the town. Ideal terrain, then, for Sid to show off just what Transition’s new bike, the Patrol, is capable of.

The Patrol combines rock-solid build quality with absolutely top-drawer components, and, while as a larger bike it isn’t as nimble through tight turns as some riders might prefer (although as you’ll see they pose no problem for Sid), for enduro riding it’s a tough one to beat. There is also a carbon version available, which should satisfy those who prefer a lighter ride.

The beautiful mix of up and down mountain riding on display here perfectly showcases exactly the kind of demanding technical shredding the Patrol was designed to handle. So sit back and marvel as Sid puts the Patrol through its paces in the idyllic Sqamish forest. Prices start at around the £1,500 mark, so it might be a lot more accessible than you imagine.
