A 64 year old Canadian woman has been arrested for laying booby traps on a MTB trail. She’s now staring down the barrel of criminal charges after reportedly blocking several trails with large logs and boulders on trails in the North Shore area of Vancouver.
Riders first encountered these unwanted obstacles back in August last year. When the hazards continued to appear along the designated public MTB trails, two regular users took it upon themselves to set a trap of their own.
The poacher-turned-gamekeepers rigged the trails with discreet security cameras to find out who had ben setting up the obstructions. The riders passed the footage on the the authorities when they noticed that somebody was sneaking into the forest at night and placing longs and boulders along the Lower Skull and Quarry trails.
“These are serious charges”
Following her arrest, the local woman was released upon the condition that she cannot go anywhere near the affected trails. Reports further suggest that the North Shore police are requesting that the elderly terroriser face criminal charges of Setting A Trap and Mischief To Property.
The accused has not been named by authorities, and at this time, it’s unclear what her motives for endangering the lives of Mountain Bikers and other trail users in the area were, although some sources suggest that she regularly walked her dog on the same trails.
“These are serious charges” confirmed Cpl. Richard de Jong, speaking on behald of the Vancouver Police Departmen. “These are public trails and one should not interfere with the lawful enjoyment of the trails and set up traps or obstacles to potentially endanger the lives of people using them.“.
