All The Gear But No Idea
All the gear, but no idea (ATGBNI) riders are not such a common sight on mtbs as they used to be thanks to road riding currently being in vogue.
On the tarmac, they’re often referred to as ‘mamils’ (middle aged men in lycra), but the ideology is the same. These are people with lots of money who want to buy into whatever they perceive as the latest trend. In other words, what their mates have just started doing.
These people go into a bike shop and just wave their credit card around for a while…
These people will go into a bike shop and wave their credit card around drawn to all the shiny parts in the glass cabinets, desperate to outdo their mates in the bragging rights with how much they’ve just spent, how much suspension travel they’ve got, you get the idea.
The thing is the bikes and gear they buy will only ever see the dirt at trail centres and even then it won’t be very often before the bike is forgotten about, left at the back of the garage as a new ‘must-do’ pastime is taken on.
