It's easy to fall back on old favourites, isn't it? Those hikes you know and love - or choosing a fly-and-flop holiday in Europe. Sometimes you just want a trip to be easy and stress-free.
But it’s good, some might even say essential, to do something that terrifies you once in a while. Something that pushes you to your limits and helps you experience the great unknown.
Make sure at least one of your adventures this year puts you well outside of your comfort zone. You never know, you may surprise yourself.
Here's why it's an excellent plan to scare the shit out of yourself on your next adventure...
YOU'LL CHALLENGE YOURSELF
Forget the bucket list or travel to do list, this should be a trip that will change you. Whether you complete a skydive or multi-day hike, taking on a challenge that has you on the edge of your seat on your next trip will make it one you’ll remember for all time.
YOU'LL LEARN NEW SKILLS
We all know that sometimes the easiest way to develop is to be thrown in at the deep end. Whether you want to pick up surfing, learn to speak French or become PADI qualified, planning a trip that focuses on something new and different will have you becoming an expert in no time at all.
YOU'LL BE LIVING THE TRUE DEFINITION OF AN 'ADVENTURE'
Officially, an adventure is an unusual, exciting or daring experience. With a trip that scares the crap out of you, we’re pretty sure you’ve got this one checked.
YOU MIGHT 'FIND YOURSELF'
Minus the cheesy factor. Realistically, pushing yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of and being in an environment you’re not used to can be daunting. It’s here you’ll discover different strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, the real you.
YOU'LL TEST YOUR LIMITS
Be warned, once you’ve taken on one challenge, you’ll want to complete bigger and better adventures. Climbed Mount Toubkal? It will only set your sites on Mount Kilimanjaro or Everest Base Camp. Personally, we don’t see this as such a bad thing…
YOU'LL MEET SERIOUSLY INTERESTING NEW PEOPLE
Trying a new type of trip, whether it’s volunteering overseas or going solo, will put you into new, different and exciting situations. Rather than having to take on these challenges on your own, you’ll find yourself alongside travel companions you may not have socialised with before
YOU'll DISCOVER YOU'RE MADE OF STRONG STUFF
When you take on a new challenge, you’ll regularly find yourself outside of your comfort zone. Don’t fret! This is the place where you’ll really test your limits, whether physical or psychological, and discover new depths to your abilities. And, once you’ve completed your trip, you’ll be all the more confident in yourself.
THAT BEER WILL TOTALLY BE WORTH IT
Whether you’ve had a long slog hiking all day or taken on your first stand-up paddle-boarding lesson, by the end of it you’ll feel spent. And that beer watching the sunset will be all the more well earned.
AND DON'T FRET - YOU ARE 100 PER CENT READY
Trust us, when you’re taking on a new challenge, you’ll very rarely ever feel ready for it. Call it last-minute nerves or a bit of apprehension, wherever you’re travelling to this year and whatever you plan to do when you get there, we know you’ll ace it.
