This spacey video challenges all you thought you knew about gravity. It looks like it’s been shot on a distant planet, with the ghostly figures floating past looking like doomed astronauts.
Happily, it’s a lot less Apollo 13 than that. It’s actually the work of French freedive specialist Guillaume Néry and filmer Julie Gautier, who shot the footage diving off Tiputa Pass, Rangiroa, in French Polynesia.
They took to the water and captures what looked like an alien landscape, playing on the fact that the normal rules of gravity simply don’t apply deep under water.
“touching the sea floor and setting foot on an unexplored planet are fascinating adventures”
The makers say that the film is made completely without any digital effects, and we presume the divers used underwater currents and thermal streams to propel them through the water, creating the haunted look that stains the edit.
Néry said “diving propels my imagination in the fantasy of the conquest of space. To touch the sea floor or to set foot on an unexplored planet, here are two fascinating adventures which feed my thirst of unknown.
“The discovery of Tiputa allowed us to put in image the visual closeness of two universes water and air, ocean and space.” Spacey!
