Event Of The Week: Macmillan Cycletta

A female-only cycle on quiet roads, this may just be the most fun you can have on two wheels

What is Macmillan Cycletta?

It’s ace that’s what Macmillan Cycletta is. I did a couple of these women-only bike rides last year and really enjoyed them, even the hills!

Starting in the surrounds of stately homes, you can kind of pretend you’re in Downton

A series of six sportives – with distances from 20km to 150km – the rides take place on quiet roads and cover some seriously stunning British countryside.  Starting in the surrounds of stately homes such as Woburn Abbey, you can kind of pretend you’re in Downton or something. Well, if Lady Mary wore Lycra and a crash helmet that is!

The next events in the series to take place are:

  • Guildford, Surrey (Loseley Park), Sunday 6 September 2015
    Distances: 20km, 50km, 100km and 150km
  • New Forest (Beaulieu Palace), Sunday 20 September 2015
    Distances: 20km, 50km, 100km and 150km
  • Cheshire (Tatton Park), Sunday 27 September 2015
    Distances: 20km, 50km, 100km and 150km

How fit do I need to be for Macmillan Cycletta?

The beauty of these rides is there’s a choice of distances when you enter, so you can tailor the challenge to your own fitness level. If you want a fun ride out with your mates, distances start from just 20km, whereas cycling keenos can plump for 100km or 150km routes.

The rides are also open to girls over the age of 12 when accompanied by an adult, so the whole family can get involved.

Any tips for Macmillan Cycletta?

If you haven’t got a bike or don’t want to take yours to the event, you can hire one via the website

There’s also a Scootathlon taking place for kids – a mini triathlon for 4-8 year olds where they scoot, bike and run – so any junior supporters will be well entertained.
