Olympic Time Trial Live Blog
Welcome Mpora readers! Today we’re going to be cheering on Team GB and British Cycling as they compete against the clock in the road cycling time trial in Rio de Janeiro.
2008 Beijing time trial silver medallist Emma Pooley is Team GB’s hope in the women’s event, which starts at 12.30pm, though any of the field will be tough-worked to beat Dutch road race winner Anna van der Breggen.
Chris Froome will be among the favourites for the gold medal when he gets out of the gates in the men’s category, which starts at 2pm. The three-time Tour de France champion won a bronze medal behind Sir Bradley Wiggins back at London 2012 and he’ll be desperate to go one further this time around.
His main competition will be Dutch time trial ace Tom Dumoulin, who is still recovering from a broken wrist suffered in the Tour and exited the Olympic road race early on Saturday to stay fresh for today.
Geraint Thomas is also a late addition to the Team GB time trial contingent, being allowed entry to the competition after several riders from other nations withdrew due to injury.
