We’ve Seen Some Terrible Kickstarters Out There… And This Bicycle Periscope Is A Perfect Example

"You know what this bike could do with? A submarine periscope”, said nobody, ever‏...

Hello and welcome to our latest episode of ‘Stupid Sh*t People Put on Kickstarter’. This week on the show, we bring you the chance to invest in a terrible solution to your poor riding posture – a bicycle periscope!

Fed up with looking at things? Neck soar from staring at the roads in an awful riding position? Don’t really care if you end up in a horrible bike crash? Then do we have the solution for you.

The Pedi-Scope is now here, and it’s bound to revolutionise the world of cycling. We’d go as far as predicting that in five years time, there won’t be any silly cyclists actually looking at the road anymore. Why look at all of the road ahead, when you can look at some of the road by looking down?

So, here are the details. The Pedi-Scope, in the words of the creator, is “a periscope dashboard for your bike. It allows you to safely look down while seeing what is directly in front of you. This provides your neck and back with that relief that it aches for.”

You don’t have to worry about adding extra weight to your ride either, because the Pedi-Scope will be both light and durable, and will be an acrylic rather than glass prism, as shown in the images above.

It’s also worth noting that the guy who made this did so for people that are “like him and crash often.” To be fair, we can imagine it is pretty easy to crash when you’re not actually looking at the road.

Seriously, imagine the carnage of commuting on a busy road where half the cyclists are looking down and only seeing the roads through a mirror on their handlebars.

They wouldn’t be able to tell what was going on from side-to-side, overtaking would be wearisome, perspective would skewed and if anything stopped abruptly or a vehicle came out of nowhere, it would cause absolute chaos.

Other than that, it’s probably worth stating for the record that we reckon half the fun of riding a bike is taking in the scenery and seeing what’s going on around you. All you have to do to prevent neck or back pain is make sure your posture is right and stretch appropriately.

We’re probably going to pass on donating towards the $21,000 goal of the Pedi-Scope then, but if you hate looking around you, don’t like seeing the world and absolutely refuse to even slightly adjust your riding position, this could just be the Kickstarter campaign for you!
