Bike Shop Owners Smash Crowdfund Target For Revolutionary Airless Tyres ‘Ever’ and ‘Nexo’

They've already raised almost double their $25,000 goal...

There’s a new brand of airless tyre on the market, and they’re making some noise in the mainstream media.

‘Ever Tires’ are campaigning to crowdfund money to launch two different models of airless tyre – the Ever tyre and the Nexo tyre. The tyres weigh around the same as a regular tyre and as there’s no inner tube, they can’t go flat.

Of course, they aren’t the first brand of airless bike tyres to hit the market, but they seem to have captured some momentum – they’re promotional video has racked up just under 200,000 views on YouTube at the time of writing.

The team do warn on their Kickstarter: “Because of our unique designs the tyres aren’t as cushioned as an air-filled tyre. So please don’t plan on using these for extreme mountain trails”, and also warn away from skidding on the tyres, riding on trainers with metal surfaces and admit that there is a 15% increase in drag when used in place of road tyres.

The crew behind the build have looked into a mountain biking tyre, adding: “If the truth be known many of us prefer mountain bike to road biking”, but admit that “as of right now our manufacturing processes are limited to cruiser/road styles of tyres. During manufacturing the wider tyres with bigger tread simply fry on the outside and are weak on the inside.” But they plan to keep testing. If it’s not fit for mountain biking yet, you can safely say the same about BMX.

So is it worth the change? We have to admit that flat tyres does seem like a problem that probably should’ve been solved by now in an era where you can pretty much find out anything about the history of the Earth just by asking your phone, but while this might be a cool step in the right direction, it sounds like there’s work still to be done.

The guys at Ever Tires say: “What happens when you mix the A-Team, Batman and Uni-Kitty’s magic horn? We don’t know either but we’re pretty sure they hate flat tires too. We’ve been in the bike industry since 2009 and have literally seen thousands of flat tires. Nothing ruins a ride or commute faster than a flat. We’ve searched the globe to find a better tire. While trying not to overstate the awesomeness of our discoveries, we think we’re offering two solutions that rival the innovation of toilet paper (well… pretty close). Introducing Nexo Tires and Ever Tires.

“Nexo tires are the next leap in flat free tire innovation. These are for riders who are looking for something light with improved performance. These tires are perfect for road cyclists, commuters, and anyone that hates getting flats. Nexo tires are manufactured in an eco-friendly process and can potentially save billions of tires from polluting our landfills.”

Alongside the benefits of never getting a flat again, which any cyclist would undoubtedly pay a lot of money to ascertain, Ever and Nexo tyres are more eco-friendly than regular tyres, attach to your existing rims and are available in a variation of sizes.

Nexo tyres weigh as much as a regular tyre/tube and liner, the team claim, and can run up to 5000km.

Whatever your views, the guys behind the idea have already raised $46,675 having only set a target of $24,597. They’ve almost doubled their goal, and the project doesn’t end until December 3.
