Shocking Tour de France Footage Shows Spectators Attack Team Sky Tour Bus

Has crowd behaviour sourced Chris Froome's success?

The Tour de France is all wrapped up now, and after another year of painstaking pedalling and electric intensity, Chris Froome has taken the yellow jersey for the second time in three years.

It’s a massive moment for the Kenyan-born Briton, who is now the only Brit to ever win the Tour twice, and for Team Sky who have claimed three out of the last four yellow jerseys. Needless to say though, it hasn’t come without a fair bit of drama.

It’s no secret that the French fans and indeed many members of the media in the country aren’t the greatest fans of Froome and Team Sky, and ever since unmerited doping accusations started circling around the team, their reception has been hostile in many spots along the Tour route.

Not only has Froome himself been spat on numerous times while riding and had a cup of urine thrown over him, Team Sky rider Richie Porte was hit in the ribs while cycling up the La Pierre-Saint-Martin and on Saturday, Geraint Thomas tweeted this video showing the abuse the Team Sky bus was taking while driving through Dutch corner on stage 20 of the Tour on Alpe d’Huez.

The hostility the team has had to put up with this year has been absolutely astounding, and no matter how often security has been increased, the attacks have continued to occur.

Here you can see bystanders swearing at the team car, throwing their drinks over it and loudly booing as they drive through.

At the end of the day though, after fending off the advances of Nairo Quintana on the road on Saturday, Froome, Porte, Thomas and the rest of Team Sky would have the last laugh on Sunday, sailing safely over the finish line to claim another win and continue their top Tour record.

So, let’s forget the video above for now and say a massive well done to Team Sky. Congratulations – we prefer these photo anyway…
