Watch: Shocking Footage of Cyclist Hit and Run Released After Driver Fined £150

A Nottingham cyclist who was victim of a brutal hit and run has released the footage of the incident online after local police said it did not have enough evidence to prosecute the driver.

The savage video clearly shows the car number plate, and the cyclist, who chooses to remain unnamed but goes by the name ‘Reginald Scot’ on YouTube, was severely injured in the crash – receiving a “severe back injury and internal haemorrhaging from the impact”.

The investigating officer was able to establish that the car was a hire vehicle, and had been sub-leased through a number of companies. He also traced a man and woman eligible to drive the car on that day and issued a formal request for them to provide the driver’s details, which they did not respond to.

The man and women were later interviewed and summoned to court for failing to stop at the scene of the accident, failing to report the accident and failing to respond to the legal request for details.

The Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the evidence and the decision was made that there was not enough evidence to prove who was driving at the time, resulting in the 52-year-old man involved receiving six penalty points and a £150 fine.

The incident itself actually happened over a year ago in November of 2014, but Reginald Scot has released the footage now in order to bring further attention to the cause.

“I was hit right in the small of my back,” he writes on YouTube. “I received a severe back injury and internal haemorrhaging from the impact. It took 4 months for me to recover from my injuries with a further month of physiotherapy to reach normality.

“To this day I have no idea why the driver did this to me, there was no confrontation with any driver prior to the attack, I do not know the driver or the car. I was not riding my normal route at my normal time so I do not think this attack was planned. Just a senseless and brutal attack on a fellow human being…

“Despite the evidence, the police and CPS failed to bring the driver in this savage attack to justice… The driver is still out on UK roads.

“The police say they do not have the funds to continue the investigation any further, they also said that more would have been done if I had been killed… so next time I will try to die from my injury’s [sic] and perhaps then a dangerous driver will be taken off the roads?”

It should be noted that Nottingham Police have spoken out at their disappointment at the outcome of the case as well, saying: “While we share the victim’s disappointment at the outcome, we feel the investigating police officer made every effort to ensure that the occupants of the car were found and brought before the courts.”
