The brand has a very long history of producing alpine gear – it was founded back in 1863 by Julius Edelmann and Carl Ridder. The name is taken from the first letters of their surnames. In their more than 150 years in business they’ve been responsible for several key innovations in climbing equipment – notably producing the world’s first kernmantel rope in 1953.
