This Dutch Mum Knitted A Life-Sized Replica Of Her Son Because She Wasn’t Getting Enough Hugs

And you thought your mum was embarrassing...

Marieke Voorslujis with her knitted “son.”

If you’ve ever been positively-trolled by your mum on Facebook, you’ll know that mothers can be a pretty embarrassing bunch when they want to be. Whether it’s picking you up from outside school with a needlessly high-pitched “yoo-hoo,” or sitting your friends down for a slideshow picture presentation of that time you filled your toddler trousers with shepherd’s pie, mums will always find a way to embarrass you.

And so, with that in mind, please spare a thought for this fallen-comrade of embarrassing mums. The son of Marieke Voorslujis, if you’re reading this, please know that our thoughts are with you at this time.

Can You Use A £1,500 Apple Mac Book Pro As A Skateboard?

Marieke Voorslujis from Amsterdam, you see, likes to hug her son. Now that, in and of itself, is pretty much your standard fare in the world of embarrassing mum stories. A mother’s love…yada, yada, yada, yada; a maternal connection between child and parent, we get it. However, we doubt that any of your mums have been so into hugging you that they decided to knit a life-sized version of you that they can hug whenever they please.

Knitted Skateboard Boy: “I ain’t got time fo’ this shit.”

Voorslujis, a professional knitter for her brand Club Geluk by trade, knitted herself a son after her real human son, made of flesh and bone, spoke to her about his own needs for personal space and freedom. This, as it turned out, conflicted massively with Marieke’s wish for more affection and hugs from her child.

Now whereas most mums would just take this mother-son disagreement on the chin, Voorslujis went the other way and spent two-months putting together a frightening skateboarding boy-doll (see pictured). Go on. Look at it again for at least a minute, without blinking, and tell us you don’t feel chills running up and down your spine. This. Is. Weird.
