Remember The Back To The Future Hoverboard? These Guys Made One, And It Could Be Out Next Year…

These guys have invented a hoverboard that will get your inner Marty McFly stoked

Anybody that’s ever seen Back To The Future is longing for a hoverboard. And we have good news; the wait may just be over.

Forbes caught up with the guys that say they’ve invented a fully functional hoverboard. Just like in the movies, it’s a chunky skateboard looking thing that’s levitated by large magnets on the base.

Currently the board only works on specific surfaces – basically, whatever the magnets can push against (the men in white coats put it much more scientifically than this).

That said, snowboards kind of work best on snow, and surfboards are pretty much water specific, so requiring a particular surface doesn’t necessarily hold a boardsport back.

The Hendo Hoverboard is being pitched on crowd sourcing website KickStarter.com, and is very close to achieving the inventors, Arx Pax, goal of $250, 000 (about £160,000).

“Hoverboards have finally arrived”

So, how close are we to seeing Shaun White taking on hoverboarding? The guys behind the Hendo Hoverboard want to get them out and on the shelves by 21st October, 2015 – the date Marty McFly first went hoverboarding in the Back To The Future Films.

Only time will tell how successful, if at all, these boards will be. But one thing we know for sure; if they work, we’ll be near the front of the queue to buy one.
