Earlier this year, we brought you the exciting news that a company called Hendo has made a fully working hover board. We know you remember it, because the news pretty much melted the internet.
But as soon as the news broke, along came the complaints. People said that it would only work on approved surfaces (kind of like a surfboard or snowboard then?) or that it was just a post earthquake proof building tool that had been marketed brilliantly – a strange thing to moan about.
But wait! Stop writing that disgruntled letter to you MP. Don’t Burn your copy of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 in protest. Another hover board is here. Not only that, but you can use it in a regular skate park and, given some screw driver based skills, you could even make one yourself!
A guy called Mr Hoverboard (a handy coincidence given the line of work he’s gone into) has strapped four regular garden leaf blowers to a skate deck, and created a legit hover board.
As opposed to most other magnet-based hoverboards designed so far, where opposing poles push the board away from the surface, this one uses a cushion of air to create the hovering effect.
Although a little clumsy looking right now, the prototype in the video shows that it can be used on concrete and, presumably, any surface a regular skateboard could be used on.
It will undoubtedly take a little refining before it comes to market, but this is certainly an exciting step in the right direction towards legit hoverboards. We don’t know abut you, but our inner Marty McFly is definitely excited.
