The UK’s First Glow-in-the-Dark Skate Park Just Arrived… Fancy A Go?

This English city is now home to the only 24/7, glowing shred-spot in Britain...

A couple of years ago the first ever glow-in-the-dark skatepark opened in Lake Vassiviere, France, and now the UK has got in on the shiny action with a similar set up in Liverpool.

The park is called ‘Evertro’, and is at Everton Park Action Sports HUB. According to the Liverpool Echo, it’s “a new public art commission from Liverpool Biennial and the city council.”

Key parts of the park have apparently been coated in phosphorescent paint, creating the glow-in-the-dark effect. While obviously this is a good thing, because it’s pretty hard to BMX or skateboard in the dark, we can imagine that even with the glowing paint it could still be quite hard to see. We’re not sure if the place is also partially lit in order to sort this.

Wheelscape Skateparks worked with “leading South Korean artist Koo Jeong A” to put the park together, with the artist then also working with local skaters to perfect the look. Speaking to the Echo, the artist said:

“Working as an artist in the community of Everton has been a fascinating process. What appealed to me about this is that community members of different ages have come together to help create this project.

“It has been an inspiration to work on this new public commission for Everton and for the City of Liverpool.”
