What Happens When You Mix Neon Lights With Night Skiing? The Result Is Pretty Incredible…

This must be how it feels to go skiing strung with Christmas lights

The new Sweetgrass film Afterglow shows backcountry skiing in a whole new light. Literally.

Shot entirely at night in Alaska and British Columbia, it features skiers wearing special suits covered in dozens of tiny lights that paint a rainbow of colours across the epic snowscape.

“It’s Like Nothing We’ve Ever Seen In A Ski Movie”

This incredible effect is added to with more light being projected on to the mountains, creating an other-worldly environment like nothing else we’ve seen in a ski movie.

We’re assured that there’s no post-production trickery going on here, it’s just the light that the filmmakers threw around when filming.

It goes to show what can be achieved with a bit of imagination and a few light bulbs. But, before you go digging out the Christmas lights to start making your own version, remember: electricity and snow don’t mix.
