MORE INFO

In an all new ski boot range for the 22/23 winter season, the Veloce series from Dalbello has, Dalbello claims, “been developed for skiers with a medium foot width who want to combine an exciting day on the slopes with Italian style.”

It looks and sounds pretty similar to the extremely popular S/Pro range from Salomon, but let’s take a look under the hood to see how well this product really stacks up against the competition in this ever-competitive boot category.

Firstly, it’s worth noting that this new range comes in eight different models, ranging from 130 to 85 flex ratings (with a mixture of both men’s and women’s) These, the Veloce 120, cover a wide range of ability levels and skier weights. Whether you’re a heavier intermediate or a less weighty expert, you’re well covered here.

Dalbello Veloce 120 Fit

Given that Dalbello big up that the fit of the Veloce has been optimised to provide comfort for skiers with a medium foot with, it’d probably be no surprise for you to hear that the boots have been built with a 100 mm last. 100 mm, while not spacious, provides enough extra room for skiers with mid to wide feet. It’s also good for those skiers who prefer a touch of extra space in the boot for a boost in comfort.

This focus on comfort continues with Dalbello’s all-new autofit technology. Auto fit is essentially a bit of memory foam attached to the inner of the tongue of the liner. This memory foam, you guessed it, moulds to the unique shape of your ski bone as you compress, and flex into, the ski boot. This not only leads to a touch of extra customisation in the boot, but it also leads to a more even spread of pressure on the tongue; leading, in turn, to impressive levels of comfort.

Build

Further improvements in comfort and fit comes from Dalbello’s ‘Contour 5’ technology. This design (originally called Contour 4) makes use of five pre-formed areas within the inner sidewalls of the boot shell and liner to match the contours of a foot. Pretty similar to what Tecnica do with their ‘C.A.S’ (custom adaptive shape), this anatomical fit means that you’ll have a snug fit across your whole foot without too many painful pinch points.

The extra fifth contour in this new and updated technology features in the ankle section. It’s all about creating a deep pocket in the liner, ensuring you get as little heel lift as possible. If you need to apply further customisation of the boot, then Dabello has built in specific points that feature added space (the bits with a dimpled texture on the outside of the shell). These portions of the shell can be easily customised thanks to their malleable properties.

Speaking about the performance, you’ve got a traditional overlap design that’s able to provide a smooth 120 flex rating. This shell is all locked together via four pretty chunky buckles, and a large power strap, that can be ratcheted down to ensure the tongue is pressed as close as possible to your shin for direct power transfer.

Who Is The Dalbello Veloce 120 For?

I’d say the Veloce 120 is kind of like a Lamborghini Urus. What do we mean by that? Well, it’s Italian design meets luxurious comfort and there’s pretty rowdy engine hiding beneath. Like the Urus, the Veloce range is comfortable on all kinds of terrain (within reason). It’s also smooth and powerful enough to keep things confident and stable when you do decide to open up the throttle.
