Dynafit continues its lead in the ski mountaineering world, creating products with an unbeatable performance to weight ratio. The TLT (Tour Light Tech) range of ski touring boots have been around for quite a long time now, having been through many different iterations over the years, but this, the latest TLT8, looks like the best yet.

Dynafit TLT8 Expedition CL W Build

The Dynafit TLT8 Expedition CL W has been built around the female foot, aimed at women who are keen on ski touring, ski mountaineering, and just generally pushing their limits on the skin track.

Dynafit have paid attention to every detail in this boot so they could shed as much weight as possible, while keeping efficiency and touring comfort at a premium. Starting with the Speed Nose, this is where Dynafit has set back the pivot point of the pin inserts by 4 mm to reduce the lever arm and create more efficiency (a pivot point closer to your toes equals a more natural stride).

The TLT Expedition 8 also includes the Dynafit patented closure system – Ultra Lock 4.0 – where you can change from walk to ski mode and vice versa in a single movement. Dynafit are the kings of single motion ski / walk transitions, and the TLT series has long proven this. Both the upper and lower buckles have handy micro-adjustable ladders to help get that custom fit.

A 60° range of motion on the cuff construction allows for maximum flexibility on the uphill for when you really get in your stride. On the downhill performance side of things, the forward lean can be adjusted to 15 or 18 degrees depending on your ability level and general posture.

Other features include a Custom Light (CL) thermo-mouldable liner that allows for a precise fit while keeping your feet warm (and comfortable) for big days on the skin track. The Pomoca outsole offers best-in-class grip and security on icy or loose bootpacks, and are, most importantly, compatible with all types of ski touring bindings. Dynafit has shortened the length of this sole to save a few grams.

The TLT8 Expedition CL W comes in sizes from 23.0 – 27.5, with a mouldable liner and a 103 mm last, giving you a comfortable fit for big days in the backcountry. The 103 mm last puts the TLT8 Expedition CL on the wider end of the touring boot spectrum, especially when coupled with the wider toe box. This means that some people may want to size down and heat mould to get a precise, tighter fit, especially if performance is their end goal.

Who Is The Dynafit – TLT8 Expedition CL W For?

Although designed with a quick ascent in mind, the TLT8 Expedition CL W performs well across the entire mountain. Obviously they aren’t a four buckled stiff flexed freeride boot, but for a lightweight touring boot you get more than just a decent ascent. Equally, they aren’t the lightest ascent boots out there, but for an uphill focussed versatile touring boot you don’t get much better than this.
