Montec’s aim with their all-new Doom Jacket was to bring in insulation to their traditional shell jackets. By doing this, they ultimately hoped to create a versatile ski jacket that required less layering while tackling various weather conditions around the mountain. This ski jacket has been designed to stay true to Montec’s clean silhouettes. It comes fully equipped with an asymmetrical, high-tech, aesthetic.

In order to fit with the all-mountain versatility vibes, Montec have gone and included a non-slip elasticated snow skirt. This means that no matter how deep the powder, you’ll be more likely to stay completely dry. Power Mesh inner pockets are hidden on the inside of the jacket, and they’re perfect for storing accessories such as goggles or gloves. Save them from being laid in the snow and getting cold when not in use.

A large media pocket on the opening to the half-zip jacket is also included, perfect for storing phones as big as the modern smartphones now go. The jacket is also packing an internal headphone cord outlet. Ideal, if like me, you refuse to buy into the bluetooth headphone market (bring back the late 2000s Skullcandy Era please).

This jacket has an optional half zip feature as well as an asymmetrical full zip. It feels like a setup designed to elevate a sense of versatility for the wearer and, quite frankly, it works.

Finished with a 20K/20K waterproof and breathability rating, this supersedes many of the rival jackets you will find at this price. Ensure you stay dry in the heaviest of snowfalls, and not uncomfortable off the back of condensation buildup on the inside of the jacket. If moisture does start to build up, FYI, large underarm vents are built in for a quick and easy cooling solution.

The Doom jacket has the ability and technical specifications to attack any peak in the mountains. It’s also affordable, something that is hard to find in the ski industry nowadays. Packed with all the necessary features, as well as some bonus ones, this jacket feels like going to a car dealership and ticking every add on for the highest spec model without paying for it at the end.

As previously mentioned this jacket does also come in a separate version without any added insulation. This option will suit a layering approach if you fancy wearing that jacket for the entire season. This lightweight insulation, that comes in this particular version, is what I would recommend for someone who is wanting to get a season-appropriate ski jacket without breaking the bank.
