The Nordica Speedmachine 130 has long been the go-to boot for advanced to expert skiers searching for wide-fitting, performance-focused kicks. Now, for 2021, the Speedmachine is in its third iteration and features a range of performance-enhancing features that help to solidify it as our top pick for performance and comfort.

Nordica Speedmachine 3 130 Build

This blend of performance and comfort is largely thanks to Nordica’s all-new 3Force technology. This tech combines a layer of three different plastics to construct the outer shell.

Firstly, a rigid frame is made from a honeycomb material to give the boot precision and power without too much of a weight penalty. As this honeycomb material comes in at such a low weight, it meant that Nordica were able to cover a large part of the boot in this highly responsive material.

The next layer is a softer outer shell that tops the honeycomb frame. This provides comfort where you don’t require the extremely stiff, and sometimes uncomfortable, addition of firm plastics. Finally, an easy entry soft flap sits over the instep, where the softest plastic provides comfort where you need it the most.

Nordica then offers a range of customisable features to make the boots match your feet and ability level. The first of these is the flex adjustment, which offers a variable flex on the spine. This requires you to unscrew a screw on the back of the boot to change between a stiff flex (plastic tab facing up), medium flex (plastic tab facing down) and a soft flex (bottom screw out).

Next, the use of infrared technology offers a relatively novel way of punching out the shape to match your foot shape. This adjustment, that can be done by a qualified bootfitter, uses infrared lamps to heat the boot up, before suction cups help reform the plastic so that it’s moulded around your foot shape.

Finally, cork has been used in the liner to provide a fully customisable package. Cork has been chosen thanks to its natural ability to form around the contours of your feet. This process will happen over time, but if you prefer a custom fit out the box, then a bootfitter can speed up the process in a matter of 8 minutes.

Nordica Speedmachine 3 130 GW Fit

This highly customisable boot results in a fit that you can make your own in more ways than one. The 100 mm last is going to be suitable for people with slightly wider feet, or who put a lot of emphasis on all-day comfort.

As mentioned previously in the review, and similar to what many other boot manufactures (like K2 and Lange) are doing, Nordica has added an area of softer plastic over the instep. This not only helps you get in and out of the boot much easier than traditional boots with solid plastic over the instep, but also gives people with higher insteps a much more comfortable fit, as the plastic is able to mould around their foot.

Who Is The Nordica Speedmachine 3 130 GW For?

It’s always a hard task trying to update an already classic bit of ski gear. Go too far and you risk angering the die hard fans, do too little and you’ll be blamed for not developing the product. This isn’t the case with the new and updated Speedmachine, though. Nordica has taken the already successful platform and boosted its versatility for what could be the most comfortable performance boot on the market.

What Is The Nordica Speedmachine 3 130 GW Good At?

Performance: 9/10
Versatility: 8/10
