Osprey Kamber 22 Backpack Review

Finding the perfect small ski touring backpack is no easy feat, but Osprey might just have nailed it. Introducing the Kamber 22, a small daypack designed specially for spring backcountry touring and lift-accessed missions beyond the resort boundaries.

Osprey are master backpack makers with a 40 year history of making top-quality outdoor kit. Based in the San Juan mountains in Colorado, they have the perfect gear testing ground right on their doorstep. Every detail on these bags is carefully thought through – from the stitching to how comfortably it sits on your back.

“It has an insulated hydration sleeve so you’ll never have ice in your water tube again”

The Kamber 22 has everything a backcountry skier could want from a backpack. It has an extra large front pocket to store your avalanche safety gear, including space for large shovel blades and extra long probes. The main compartment is a special watertight zone, made to keep your dry kit away from wet avalanche gear and skins.

On the outside of the pack, you’ll find a stowable helmet pouch on top, plus straps to carry a snowboard vertically or skis diagonally.

Good suspension is very important to Osprey. The Kamber 22 is made with their signature LightWire suspension, which effectively spreads the weight of the backpack evenly across the body. You can carry up to 11kg in this bag without losing any stability. The padded hipbelt and contoured shoulder straps add extra comfort when you are tearing through fresh powder.

One of our favourite elements is the insulated hydration sleeve. There’s nothing worse than trying to drink from your water tube only to find it is totally frozen. Happily, Osprey have their own built-in hydration sleeve inside the Kamber pack with an insulated harness router so you’ll never have ice in your water tube again.

Osprey have even devised special glove-friendly buckles and zippers, so you don’t have to take your gloves off on top of a freezing ridge to get inside your pack and stash your skins away.

Next time you are wondering which ski touring backpack you should buy for day excursions, make it the Kamber 22. Osprey have thought of every tiny element – from storage to comfort to hydration. Trust us, you won’t regret buying this pack.
