A Polish skier has been seriously hurt in France when a light aircraft collided with her. The incident took place on Thursday 13h March, in the Avoriaz region of the French Alps.
The plan, equipped with skis designed to deal with the snowy conditions had, reportedly, failed to take off correctly from a high altitude runway near the famous ski resort.
Once in motion, the aircraft could not be stopped, and it’s downward path took it onto the groomed slopes below. Wiseness’ have suggested that the rogue plane narrowly missed colliding with a group of children, and just passing under a chairlift, before hitting the Polish skier, almost severing her hand from her wrist.
“She suffered a near amputation”
Emergency services attending the accident later said “We only narrowly avoided a catastrophe,” before confirming that the 55 year old skier has suffered a “near amputation” as a result of the propellor clipping her hand.
Local public prosecutor Patrick Steinmetz, confirmed to French press that “The plane suddenly appeared behind her and there was virtually no sound. She didn’t hear it.”.
He added that the pilot of the plane was “a professional who is used to these kind of conditions“.
The plane was removed from the slope on Thursday night, and the slope where the incident occurred will remain closed to the pubic until the end of May.
