MORE INFO

The Planks Free Peaks Midlayer has been designed to keep you warm as a mid-layer, on those cold winter days, and has enough style to be worn by itself for the good weather shred. Hell, it’ll take you straight to après (and even further into the night) if that’s what you desire.

Having witnessed half of the Planks team wearing this jacket day-in-day-out, it can only mean one thing: it’s a seriously decent bit of kit. Of course, that’s the least we expect these days when it’s a product from our pals at Planks.

I’ll let you into a little secret. The Free Peaks is actually my favourite jacket to take off the back of a chair from fellow ski pal, and almost-legendary Planks rider, Chris McCormick. With my hands-on experience considered gospel, I can confirm that you’ll never get cold. Also, just wait until you tell those envious souls looking your way that the jacket is made from recycled materials and packed full of 100 grams of insulation.

The Tech Behind It

This jacket is seriously toasty, with Planks scoring it a 4 out of 5 on their warmth rating. This is all thanks to the 100g of insulation. The jacket is also packable into its own pocket, with the Free Peaks standing up proudly as the perfect ‘just-in-case jacket’. You can chuck it on your person somewhere, and forget about it until you really need it (unless of course you’re wearing it all the time because it looks so cool).

This bit of gear will serve you well when you’re out in the wind and rain. It’s made from a 100% recycled water-resistant ripstop material and has solvent-free water-repellent coating. If you’re all about that satisfying watch when water sustainably beads off your jacket, you’re in luck. The jacket’s sporting a great casual fit for wearing around town, and is built for the coldest days on the hill. You really can’t go wrong. Just watch out for mates who might want to claim it as their own.
