This terrifying video shows that relatively small avalanches can be deadly. These snow mobilers were out in the back country, enjoying a bit of fresh powder.
When one of the group hit an incline, a slab avalanche is triggered. Within seconds, tones of snow is thundering down the hill, engulfing the the stranded rider.
Luckily, the rest of the group appear to be experienced and knowledgable. They initially get them selves out of harms way. After all, they wont be any use to their friend if they also become victims.
As soon as the slap stops rolling, they race over to the point of last sight and start digging. Even on video, the sight of the guy in the snow in claustrophobia inducing, but the guys kept calm heads and got to work.
They cleared the dudes airways and started to dig out his chest, ensuring he could breath. Then they get the shovels from their snow mobiles to finish the job. The swift actions of the group – along with a large dose of luck when be was so easily discoverable – definitely saved a life.
