Watch: Luke Aikins Becomes First Man To Skydive From 25,000ft… Without a Parachute

How the hell is this even possible?

I went skydiving once. It was wonderful. I found when I was up in the plane and hanging out the door that all my worries were alleviated and replaced with a rather comforting thought; “well loads of people have done this, and they’ve not died.”

But then again, I did have a parachute.

When Luke Aikins launched himself out of a plane from 25,000ft last weekend, he had no such comfort. In fact, he just became the first person to ever jump from a plane so high and land safely without a parachute.

How did they do it? Basically there was just a giant net waiting for Luke to slow him down, though the man in question did seem to land scarily close to the edge of that net.

If you feel a bit queasy watching this though, just think how Aikins wife, who was watching from the crowd must have felt. We’d love to know what their first words were to each other after being reunited after the stunt…
