Adidas Snowboarding have released the third and final instalment of their web series, Nomad.

It follows Forest Bailey, Keegan Valaika, Alex Tank, and pals as they trek across Russia, following the route of the Trans-Siberian Rail Road. The more we think about that, the more it sounds like a Wes Anderson Movie. Throw in Bill Murray, and you’d be on to thinking-mans-cinema gold.

The edit is a strange mix of snowboarding film, a travelogue, and an Anton Corbijn music video. As you’ expect, there’s stacks of handrails and street spots being destroyed by the guys, but there’s a lot of other things going on as well.

While it’s a rad watch, at times it feels a little confused, not quite knowing what it is. It almost feels like a nine minute trailer for something much bigger. More cinematic.

Plenty of parts in Nomad 3 are a far cry from your average snowboarding web edit. The opening section, for example, is reminiscent of the opening scenes in Taxi Driver, where De Niro’s Travis Bickle is driving his cab through a grubby New York city.

In contrast, there are other times when the footage has ben given a home-movie feel, which comes across as being much more You’ve Been Framed than we can imagine was ever intended.

None of this is to say that Nomad 3 is bad. Far from it. It’s certainly unusual though. But at a time when many snowboard edits seem to follow the same formula, a little bit of ‘other’ is not a bad thing at all.
