“You know you’re getting old” said Mpora’s nanna once “when policemen are getting younger.”. This is the same nana, it should be added, that also claimed to have been an integral part of the capture of the infamous Red Barron during World War II, which the history buffs among you will appreciate is questionable at best.
Nanna never mentioned snowboarders, but It cannot be denied that the age at which groms are getting really, terrifyingly good is plummeting. In the good old days, when the internet was all fields, and you could leave your browser open at night, snowboarders were well into their 20’s before you’d ever hear of them (one Shaun White being the exception that proves the rule).
But, in the past 10 years or so, top level snowboarders are getting younger and younger and younger. back in 2012 Mark McMorris won his first X Games gold aged just 19 (he’s already won a silver a year earlier). Marcus Kleveland was stomping Quad Corks at the tender age of 16, and had got triple corks on lock at just 13.
And the trend doesn’t look like ending any time soon, as this new video proves. It features Icelandic mini ripper Benni Fridbjornsson absolutely destroying everything he touches.
