1. Banzai Pipeline - Hawaii
Pipeline is famously the heaviest, and deadliest wave in the world. Occurring on the North Shore of Oahu, one of the islands in the Hawaiian chain, Pipeline is notorious for it’s massive waves that break into shallow water – almost directly onto razor sharp reef.
Pipeline is big all year round, but reaches its full size in December. The unique shape of the reef under the water, along with the stormy weather creates waves that are not just high, but also incredibly thick.
Tragically, Pipeline has claimed the lives of more surfers than any other wave. Seven people have lost their lives to this beast of a wave since the late 1980’s.
