6. The Wedge - USA
The Wedge, found on California’s Newport Beach is one of the strangest, along with one of the deadliest waves in the world. The Wedge is created by other waves that bounce back off the large jetty that sticks out over 1000 yards (314 metres) from Newport Beach.
In Summer months, in particular August, natural current patterns along with this one-of-a-kind architecture creates a uniquely shaped, almost triangular wave.
When the waves get big, surfers risk a deadly wave that breaks directly onto hard, dry sand. When it’s small, it’s possibly to hit a smaller side wave that sling-shots riders into the larger, pyramid wave, which either treats you to a perfect barrel, or chews you up and spits you out hard onto the deck.
