Depression is the absolute worst. Depression, when serious and left untreated, can lead to people taking their own life. Depression, in a nutshell, sucks. The stigmas that still surround it, and other mental health problems, however mean that many sufferers are unwilling to talk about the way they’re feeling and this can lead to the issue getting internalised. This can have tragic consequences for the sufferer.
Chris White, who lost his brother and his father to suicide, knows the impact depression can have more than most. White, a keen surfer, wants to do everything he can to aid those suffering with depression and help them overcome it. In his new book ‘Dark Light’, that combines epic surf-based imagery with anecdotal stories about surfing, White opens up about how the ocean has helped him to maintain a positive outlook on life and consequently shaped the way he tackles adversity. Maybe, just maybe, White’s inspirational book might save some lives. And that, we think, is a seriously awesome thing.
