Skating On A Canal? It’s Not As Hard As It Sounds

Why aren't the Brits the best in the world?

This video of three time Wakeskate Tour Champion Brian Grubb ripping up a 60ft drop in a canal is sick.

But it got us thinking: Here in the UK we may not be blessed with sun-drenched, flat streets, the big waves of the South pacific, or snow covered mountains but, by fuck we’ve got canals.

Birmingham has over 100 miles of canals which is, famously, more than Venice in Italy. The Brummies also have the Grand Union Canal, the biggest in the country at 137 miles, stretching down to London. The Midlands also hosts the canal with the most amount of drops; 30 in just over 200 hundred feet for potential rippers to hurl themselves off.

So where are all the Brummie Wakeskaters? There are the canals, all that’s needed are a couple of good winches and some boards. With these in place, surely it cant be long before we see somebody on the top step of the podium thanking his sponsors in an Ozzy Osbourne accent. “SHAAAROOOHHNNN!
