Soon, you might be able to take a road trip from the UK to the US without ever having to leave the comfort of your car.
This is all thanks to the proposal of a 55 mile long bridge that will stretch from the East coast of Russia to the Western tip of Alaska, USA. The ambitious project would not only link the continents by extending the Trans-Eurasian Belt, but also provide a vital shot in the arm to Russian tourism.
Vladimir Yakunin, President of the Russian Railway Initially, initially proposed a tunnel to breach the 55 mile stretch of ocean between the former cold war enemies. However, the spiralling cost of such a project has let the designers back to the drawing-board, where they came up with a really, really massive bridge.
So, what does that mean for us? Well, it may be a little while away from being built (assuming it does get built at all), but if and when it is, a road trip from London to New York without ever leaving the car is on!
Well, you may want to get out and stretch your legs, and maybe have the odd toilet stop on a journey that estimate will take the best part of a full seven days.
