World Of Game Of Thrones: The Incredible Real Life Locations Behind The Television Phenomenon

Travel the globe, Game of Thrones style.

Game. Of. Thrones. What can you say about it, that hasn’t already been said? In recent years, it’s pretty much taken over all aspects of our lives.  Last year, the Office for National Statistics revealed that we’re even naming our children after some of the show’s most iconic characters (Khaleesi, Arya, Sandor and Bran).

Based on the epic novel series ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’, by shopping-centre-Santa-Claus George RR Martin, Game of Thrones is grounded predominantly on the mythical island-continent of Westeros. Set in a quasi-medieval time period, it features warring houses, political manoueverings, and fire-breathing dragons.

Thankfully, still alive (Photo: Game Of Thrones – via nerdist.com).

The blood-soaked, sex-drenched, HBO fantasy epic has been killing off some of our favourite characters since 2011. It’s made household names of the actors involved (see Emilia Clarke, in character, pictured above), and dragged the fantasy genre kicking and screaming into the mainstream.

If you watch the show regularly you’ve no doubt, at some point or other, been overcome by an intense bout of wanderlust. That feeling is largely down to the show’s incredible location scouts, who have travelled all over the world in order to find suitably epic places in which to shoot one seriously epic television phenomenon.

You might have guessed this already but, here at Mpora, we’re quite big fans of all things GOT. With the new season kicking off, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to round up some of the show’s real-world locations so you don’t have to. We’re nice like that.

Get your costumes on, because adventure…is coming.
