She Has Nearly A Million Instagram Followers, But This Vegan Lifestyle Blogger Decided To Quit Her ‘Fake’ Instagram Life

Today, Essena Oneill did something totally unheard of...

18 year old blogger Essena Oneill has deleted her successful social media career today, saying she doesn’t want to take part in the ‘contrived’ world of social media advertising.

The blogger, who first found an online following on YouTube, posting videos about her vegan lifestyle and its positive effects, has a following of over one million but says that ‘social media is not real life.’

She has now filled her account instead, with alternative messages about self promotion and social media addiction.

As with all successful online bloggers, as Essena’s followers stacked up she became of interest to online advertisers as a face to sell their products and her online profiles began to fill up with bikini shots and subtle adverts.

Deleting over 2,000 posts today, she now claims that they had no purpose other than showing “contrived perfection, made to get attention”

“I was the girl who had it all” she says, “and I want to tell you that having it all on social media means absolutely nothing in your real life.”

Essena is starting a new site called letsbegamechangers.com

The site will focus on “veganism, creative imagery with purpose, poems, writing, interviews with people that inspire me, and of course the finical reality behind deluding people off Instagram.”

We admire Essena’s bravery in speaking out against a business that she believed was wrong!

Check out the dramatic change in her instagram here and hear the reasons for her change of heart in the video below.
