Noel Gallagher Calls Skateboarders and Surfers ‘Idiots’… And The Backlash has Been Hilarious

And after all... we're not John and Paul

Earlier this week, 48 year old father of two from Manchester Noel Gallagher took a swipe at, well, just about every action sport he could think of.

In a minute long interview with Fuel TV, the former Oasis guitarist turned perennial chat-show guest had skateboarders, surfers, BMX riders and more in his monobrowed crosshairs.

If you’re too young to remember Oasis, here’s a very brief history: In the early-to-mid 1990’s a young Paul McCartney-haired lad called Noel joined a band called Rain that his brother Liam was already in. They wrote some songs, changed the name to Oasis, and quickly set about becoming very popular.

“Skateboarding’s for f*cking little idiots”

This popularity stemmed from the fact that their music was completely unique, and like nothing else that had gone before it, assuming you’d never heard of The Beatles or The Jam.

Oasis also gained exposure in the national press because of their unabashed drug use, their rivalry with an art-school band from London called Blur, and the fact that Noel and Liam regularly fell out with each other, but also formed a formidable team – Noel being the brains, and Liam the brawn. It was basically, Of Mice And Men: The Musical.

History lesson over, and back to the recent rant: While the female Fuel interviewer laughed nervously in the background, Noel suggested that “Surfing‘s for idiots”, “Skateboarding’s for fucking little idiots”, and suggested that riding a BMX is “For overgrown children”.

See the video below for Noels full gut full of bile, where not even wakeboarding or Motocross are spared.

Now, as we all know, the internet is a calm, tolerant, and accepting utopia, but these comments from Gallagher Snr appeared to get under the skin of some folk.

From the relative calm of:

to the less considered:

Not one to miss the opportunity to keep a public falling out going, Noel took to his own Instagram and fuelled the flames with a few pics of his own.

If you’re wondering, here’s the video that started this silly public squabble.

Now, of course some of you are going to be annoyed at Noel’s attack on what you do, but let’s face it, would you let any other bloke from the North West, who’s pushing 50 stop you from riding?

Of course, not, so why is Noel any different. Go skate. Go surf. Go and ride. And when you’ve done all that, let’s look back and remember Noel at what he was really good at: Taking the piss out of Liam.
