With its redefined freestyle shape, the Black Ops 92 has been designed as an all-new pair of junior freeride skis. In balancing a blend of power, pop, and playfulness, Rossignol has managed to create something that remains lightweight and agile enough to ensure the next generation of freeskiers have the tools to rip around the resort.

This nimble spirit begins with the construction. A paulownia core helps to keep the weight low while still retaining a good deal of pop and dampening when the skis are opened up. Full length vertical sidewalls run for the length of the ski to deliver fantastic grip on hard pack snow, a factor that will make the run back to the chalet as easy as possible.

At 92mm under the foot, this ski is right in the perfect window for maximum all-mountain performance. Everything from choppy and hard-packed piste to the soft snow we all know and love, it’s got the skier covered. This waist will also be a mid-fat option for junior skiers, to help reduce the lever effect on their knees. Young skiers, of course, often don’t want a wide-waisted ski underfoot.

Looking at the rocker, you’ve got a progressive setup; a design that Rossingnol claims, has been put together with the deepest powder days in mind. It’s said to bring an award-winning balance of versatility and float, while traditional camber underfoot brings in the grip and power required for high-speed carving on edge.

When it comes to customers looking for a progressive yet playful ski, it’s fair to say that Rossignol have hit the nail on the head with this product. It’s progressive, it’s playful, and it will take you all over the mountain. Any sense it will feel like skiing about with two breeze blocks attached to your ski boots, forget about it. That’s certainly not the case.

There has been a big development in freeride skis for the youth in recent years, with a great range of choice now on offer for the young ones. Consider the new Black Ops 92 on that roster of top options, for sure.
