Batteries are rubbish. They die quicker when they get cold and never last that long anyway. Yet we are increasingly using electronic tools in the outdoors: tablets, phones, GPS devices, smart watches. But until we can invent phones without batteries (which looks unlikely) thank goodness then for powerpacks like the Kodiak Plus.

Now, we’ve not had loads of luck with power packs. They can often be tricky to use, or fail just as quickly as an iPhone on a cold day, but this one is easily the best we’ve come across.

Firstly, it’s virtually indestructible. Throw it into the bottom of your backpack and all the dust, water, mud, sunscreen won’t affect it. It can, the blurb says, be submersed under three feet of water for half an hour (although something has gone seriously wrong with your camping trip if you need to test that), and it’s also shock resistant thanks to its “silicone armour”.
