The Mindbender series may have been a brand new range of skis for 2020, but they’ve quickly gained a cult following from those who like things powerful and damp. The Mindbender 108 Ti sits towards the wide end of the range, offering bucket loads of power and stability across the entire mountain in a mid-fat package.

K2 Mindbender 108 Ti Build

The Mindbender range features two different builds that feature either a carbon or titanal layer. These 108s feature a titanal layer sitting above the Fir and Aspen wood core.

“They’ve quickly gained a cult following from those who like things powerful and damp”

The metal layer is cut into a Y shape, to not only save a little weight, but to help direct energy where it’s needed most. From the tip, the titanium layer covers both edges, with a small section of the midsection exposed, before spanning the full width underfoot, then tapering as it reaches close to the tail.

This construction results in a ski that’s pretty stiff – both torsionally and longitudinally – underfoot. It’s nothing like the stout Scott Pures, but it’ll certainly be able to hold its own while you’re charging through the chop, or just railing groomers.

A slightly softer tip and tail ensures you’ll be able to release the tails from a turn, giving you the option to dump speed at will, while also making for a slightly easier turn initiation.

K2 Mindbender 108 Ti Shaping

The skis do feature a touch of taper both in the tips and tails which, combined with the 108 mm waist width, gives them decent manoeuvrability in the soft stuff.

Similar to the Mindbender 99 Ti, we’re happy to see K2 haven’t gone overboard and brought the tapering deep into the ski – a ski with this much performance deserves as much edge contact as possible for high performance edge grip.

A moderate use of 4 mm of camber underfoot, paired up with tip rocker and very slight tail rocker create a ski that’s happy being rolled onto an edge, and remain locked in there for the length of the turn.

Who Is The K2 Mindbender 108 Ti For?

We loved the Mindbender 99Ti’s ability to lay trenches at will when we tested them last year and this is certainly the case with the 108s. The meaty construction and flex rating, combined with the subtle rocker and traditional shaping all fuse together to make for a ski that’s begging to be locked into some high-speed turns.

“We actually found them perform flawlessly through cut up snow and heavy landings”

While the stiff underfoot section and precision of the metal layer resulted in a powerful and demanding ride, we actually found them perform flawlessly through cut up snow and heavy landings, thanks to that slightly softer tip and tail.

We’ve been skiing on the entire Mindbender range for a couple of years now and the mix of power and dampening is quite frankly second to none. If you put a lot of value in high speed trench laying, while still being able to remain afloat on the deeper days, then the Mindbender 108 Ti is certainly one to check out.
