Head has brought back the Oblivion range for the 2022 winter season with three brand new skis on offer – the Oblivion 79, 84 and 94. These skis, the Head Oblivion 84 offer a traditional park-focused shape for skiers who love to spend a good chunk of time in the air or sliding rails.

“Head has created the tools that their skiers will bring with them to the 2022 Tokyo Olympic Games”

By enlisting the help of many of Head’s freestyle athlete team – we’re talking the likes of Aaron Blunck, Jesper Tjäder and Emil Granbom – Head has created the tools that their skiers will bring with them to the 2022 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Head Oblivion 84 is built to stand up to some of the biggest park terrain on the planet, and come out the other end in one piece.

Head Oblivion 84 Build

Claiming that a freestlye ski is able to survive a beating in the park is a pretty big deal. Many ski brands claim that their skis can tackle it, but many fail to deliver. Head has looked to address this by turning to the edges and sidewalls. The edges feature a thicker, and therefore more durable, material, while the sidewalls are protected by Head’s ‘Tuff-Wall’ tech. Tuff Wall is essentially an impact resistant ABS that covers the full sidewall, saving this exposed section from any chips or breaks.

Then, looking at the bases, you’ve got Head’s UHM-C base. This is Head’s bombproof base material that’s built like a tank in an effort to survive rail hit after rail hit. This toughened base material isn’t at the loss of run in speed, either, as the UHM-C base is still more than capable of sliding extremely fast.

A final note on the durability of these planks has to be on the scratch-resistant topsheet that’ll not only help to keep your skis looking fresh even after hundreds of laps in the park, but will also save them when one-run-and-done Karen decides to ski over your new sticks in the lift queue.

It’s not all about a tough guy construction with these skis, though. Head claims that they’ve managed to kill off any unwanted chatter by merging their Independent Suspension System with their full vertically laminated wood core. Their Independent Suspension System makes use of elastomers. These elastomers are able to absorb, quieten and eventually reduce any vibrations from being created throughout the length of the ski.

Head Oblivion 84 Shaping

The 84 mm waist of the Oblivion 84 creates a platform where snappy edge-to-edge turns can be performed for when you’re carving lines in firm snow. This narrower waist width also keeps up high levels of power transfer directly to the edges for when you’re preparing to pop off the next kicker.

“Subtle tip and tail rocker keeps the skis manoeuvrable”

Subtle tip and tail rocker keeps the skis manoeuvrable and pivotable for when you’re looking to scrub a bit of speed from a long turn carved out by the 19 metre turn radius. As expected, traditional camber underfoot looks to provide pop for takeoffs and side hits.

Who Is The Head Oblivion 84 For?

The Oblivion 84 is born to thrive in the park. Their combination of a narrow waist width, durable build and responsive flex rating make them one of the highest performing park skis we’ve been on this season. Beginners will find the Oblivion 84 easy to handle, while advanced – expert riders will find the snappy build a blast in the park.
