K2 revitalised their long-standing Women’s Alliance in 2019 and, following extensive collaboration with their female athletes (including freeride pioneers Amie Engerbretson and Lexi Dupont), they’ve released some of the hardest-charging gear out there. The K2 Mindbender 110 Alliance is no exception, delivering no-compromise all-mountain and freeride performance.

Saying that, we’d expect nothing less from boots donned by the backflipping Queen of Corbet’s Couloir, Veronica Paulson.

K2 Mindbender 110 Alliance Build

The beauty of the Mindbender 110 Alliance lies in its combination of power and practicality – a product of K2’s ‘Powerlite’ shell. The boot’s hybrid construction joins four different plastics of varying thickness to exact the maximum functionality from each part of the boot. For example, a stiff TPU plastic shell provides support to the outside of the foot, while a softer TPU instep makes the Mindbender 110 Alliance easier to slip on and off.

With its 110 flex sitting at the aggressive end of women’s ski boot flex ratings, you might expect the K2 Mindbender 110 Alliance to be on the bulkier side. In fact, K2’s Powerlite construction slims the boot down to 1640g, creating a hard charging freeride boot that won’t bog you down in the backcountry.

And when it comes to the backcountry, the Mindbender 110 Alliance is fully kitted out. Integrated tech-fittings ensure the boot’s compatibility with both pin and alpine DIN bindings. K2’s ‘Powerlock Spyne’ walk mechanism provides a generous 50-degree range of motion and allows you to customise your forward lean by a whole 7 degrees. K2’s highest-performing touring liner – featuring stiffer foam and lace-up fastening – adds to the boot’s sturdiness.

On the liner front, you’ve got the ‘Powerfit Pro Tour’ liner which comes with movement-enhancing ankle notch, while GripWalk boot outsoles results in impressive walkability and grip for touring and bootpack missions.

K2 Mindbender 110 Alliance Fit

Whilst the K2 Mindbender 110 Alliance is nearly identical to the men’s version in construction, several women’s-specific elements enhance its fit for female riders. A women’s-specific last gives the boot a lower cuff, a lower volume shell, and a narrower heel pocket. This shaping ensures the boot sits at an appropriate height on shorter limbs and minimises movement within the boot.

The narrow 98mm last similarly provides a precise fit, which optimises energy transmission from your foot to boot. Plus, the Mindbender 110 Alliance starts in a Mondopoint 22.5 (UK 3.5), so smaller-footed riders don’t miss out on a snug fit. For full customisation, it’s also heat mouldable.

Who Is The K2 Mindbender 110 Alliance For?

The mindbending (sorry, we couldn’t resist!) aspect of this boot is how well it manages pretty much everything. The Mindbender Alliance’s 110 flex makes it suitably progressive for advanced women looking to tackle the off-piste, while features including the lace-up liner and 45mm power strap can bolster the stiffness for expert women requiring extensive support to tackle freeride lines. Its suite of tech features make touring accessible to backcountry newcomers and veterans alike, without having to fork out on a separate boot.

Paired with the K2 Mindbender 106C Alliance skis and Marker bindings (K2 designed their GripWalk outsoles in conjunction with Marker), most advanced riders will find they’ve got themselves a do-it-all setup. When it comes to all-mountain versatility and performance, K2’s Mindbender Alliance 110 comes close to a one-boot wonder.
