Ever heard the tale of King Joffrey? He’s a ruler who goes bigger and badder than anyone else, who’s seen as fearless and ruthless in the eyes of those around him, and who earlier this week set a new world record for the most air achieved from a superpipe on skis.
You’ve probably worked out by now that we’re not talking about the little dickhead of a Joffrey from Game of Thrones. We like to think that if that Joffrey did try skiing, he’d instantaneously lose his balance and tumble off a nearby cliff.
No, we’re talking about Joffrey Pollet-Villard, the new world record holder for the highest air from a superpipe on skis.
The Frenchman known as JPV broke Peter Olenick’s existing record of 7.58m earlier this week in Tignes, flying a massive 8.04m from a 22ft superpipe and dumping the legacy of the American Olenick in the process.
You may not have heard of Joffrey before, but one Frenchman you’ll almost definitely heard of is Candide Thovex, and when you take in the fact that the two are good friends, it’s no surprise JPV is a bit mad.

In fact, the rider has been known for going big for much of his career. He made his debut in the X Games two years ago and earned a cult following for his 23 foot airs, and the fact that he does it all in a denim jacket gives him even more style points in our books.
Well played Mr. Pollet-Villard – you’ve clearly got balls of steel. We can’t see that record being broken any time soon.
