MORE INFO

Lange introduced the world’s first plastic ski boots in 1962, which was shortly followed by a greatly improved model aimed at the racing market in 1965. Ever since then they have been one of the top competitors, and have played a big part in the progression we have seen in ski boots and technology.

Now dropping into true women’s touring boot territory with the introduction of the XT3 Tour series, the Lange XT3 Tour W Sport sits in the middle of the range with a flex of 95 and a weight of 1,485 grams in a 24.5 size. Featuring a bomber overlap design with four buckles, the XT3 Tour Sport runs with a Grilamid shell with a glued on Vibram Touring Sole.

Using the excellent Friction Free Hinge from the XT3, Lange’s new Tour group competes on an even weight footing with many established touring boots (and may well out-ski them).

The XT3 Tour W Sport comes out the box at a 99 mm last, something which should provide a snug fit for those with narrow feet or suit a customer who desires a tighter fit for maximising performance for the downhill. All that being said, it’s worth pointing out that the Grilamid shell has the potential to be customised by your local professional boot fitter.

Paired with the fully customisable touring liner, Lange have really hit the nail on the head here. They’ve provided a touring boot that maximises uphill potential and efficiency, while also ensuring it’s comfortable to keep on all day.

The bootboard is usually a part of the ski boot that customers tend to overlook or disregard. Lange, however, have incorporated a uniquely shaped bootboard into the XT3 Tour Sport to emphasise how important this part can be. With an internal foot rocker built into the base board itself, it provides a more contoured feel and allows for more natural foot motion inside the boot. We like to think of it kind of like a trainer as it’ll provide a more natural stride when skinning or bootpacking.

Also incorporated are shock absorbing properties which, these days, is something this reviewer can’t possibly ski without after spending a few years taking impacts. Trust me, you’ll notice the lack of shock absorption (even on smaller impacts).

All in all the XT3 Tour W Sport is perfectly tailored for a skier looking to maximise uphill potential and efficiency when on missions, without limiting the downhill performance as a pay off.

Narrow fitting, rocking a relatively stiff flex pattern, and packed with all the advanced features of competing hike and ride boots on the market, Lange have executed this one perfectly. The boots live up to the legendary Lange name, and deliver the whole package at an affordable price tag. We’re big fans.
