The Nitro Circus team have a bit of a habit of making history. They probably occupy half the record book when it comes to world firsts, especially when said innovation takes place on two wheels.
The team just took the profession of progression one massive leap further as well, after FMX rider Josh Sheehan stomped a trick that not only has never been tried before, but has always simply seemed beyond the realms of human possibility – the moto triple backflip.
It’s been a full nine years since the legend that is Travis Pastrana nailed the first ever double backflip in motocross back at the X-Games of 2006.
Since then, plenty of people have mastered the double, but nobody had ever thought to take it one step further, although when it did happen, it was always bound to be Nitro Circus, and Sheeny was the prime candidate.
Josh regularly sticks doubles here, there and everywhere on the X-Fighters tour, but nevertheless, this is next level.
The height on the jump is absolutely ridiculous. As Travis and the rest of the crew mention in the video, there was only two ways Josh was rolling away from that giant kicker at Pastranaland last night – in an ambulance or on two wheels.
Thankfully, he stuck it, and history has been made, pushing back the boundaries of sheer possibility in the process.
Now, the only problem we have with Josh’s effort is that he didn’t actually name the new trick. After Billy Morgan stuck a quad-cork on his snowboard earlier this month, you might have heard us sing a similar story. In our books, naming the trick is half the fun.
So, in honour of the rider behind it, we’re now going to be referring to the triple moto backflip as “The Sheehanigans”, for obvious reasons. Well done Josh. We hope you like the name.
