Since relaunching in 2005 after the eight year hiatus which followed in the wake of the untimely death of original co-owner Mike Ternasky, Plan B has grown to become one of the most successful and highly regarded skateboarding companies around. What sets them apart is their unique ability to preserve the original ethos which Ternasky, team founder Brian Johnson and pro skaters Danny Way and Colin McKay laid down back in the early nineties, while continuing to develop as a team and as a company. They are still at the forefront of new tricks and styles, pushing at the limits of the sport and consistently incorporating the most promising younger skaters, as 2014 team video True demonstrates.

When Johnson originally founded the team in 1991, having previously managed the H-Street company with Tony Magnusson, his vision was to create a ‘dream team’ of the absolute best skaters on the scene, very much in the same vein as the champion NBA Basketball teams of the era. Ternasky added to this a philosophy that the separation between the business side of the rapidly growing skateboard industry and pro skaters should be broken down. Ternasky felt that too many people in charge of skateboarding had never or were no longer skating themselves, and this needed to change. He became something of a mentor and older brother figure to the team members, and it was his legacy which Way and McKay sought to continue with the company’s eventual relaunch.

So that’s the history lesson over with, nothing remains but to sit back and enjoy True in all its spectacular glory.
